MCCHS FRIDAY FOCUS
104th EDITION: February 15, 2019
Pilgrims on the Way of Truth
What’s going on at Marian?
It’s a simple enough question - but the possible responses all cause us to pause a bit. For those of you who have been on this journey with us, you can recall all the ups and downs. In times like this, it’s completely understandable to hearken back to the “good old days” before the turbulence and uncertainty.
Everyone we have encountered has talked passionately about their love and connection to Marian Central. That is something very real to all of us - we all love this school and what it has done for our lives and the lives of our children. We want the absolute best for every student that walks through our doors every day. We want to celebrate all sorts of victories together, and be there for each other when we need support. We want to provide the highest academic standards and educational advancements to prepare our students to succeed in college and beyond. Most of all, we want to help fortify that spiritual center within every student - as we know what is awaiting them beyond these doors. We fully embrace our school’s Catholic identity, and what it means to be authentic evangelists of our faith. It’s no wonder we all are passionate, motivated, and yes...even uncertain. Look at what’s at stake.
We choose to work at Marian Central because we want to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. This school is special to us. It is our home, and you are our family. We are bigger than one position - whether that position is a coach, a teacher, or even a superintendent. To believe otherwise would discredit the outstanding work happening throughout our entire building on a daily basis. Our faculty, staff, and coaches deserve our thanks, praise, and unending support every single day.
So, when articles come out...when rumors circulate...we try to do what’s right. There are many rumors that we cannot - as employers - comment on. Anyone can understand this - no matter how frustrating it is. We cannot breach that confidentiality, no matter how harshly we are attacked on social media or in the press.
We completed the interviewing process for the Head Football position last night at 6:00 pm with our final candidate, right around the same time the latest article posted in the Northwest Herald. We have always known just how important this search was to our school - and we wanted to do it right. There will always be debate on the “how” of the entire process - but our “why” was the most important. We wanted to find the absolute best person for the job - our athletes deserve nothing less. We had a pool of outstanding candidates - from all backgrounds, and with varying coaching styles. Every candidate honored us, and our athletic program, with their application. Each wanted to build on our rich traditions and reputation of excellence, and at no time was any candidate asked to withdraw from the process. We owed our school every possible candidate out there, which is why we kept the posting open and drew in as many applications as we could.
We are absolutely thrilled to have found the best individual to lead our football program here at Marian Central. Mr. Darren Fortin is not only a Marian Alum, but he headed straight back to his alma mater after college graduation in 1989 to serve as an assistant coach with our football program. He has given his heart and soul to this program, and has been a student of the game his entire playing and coaching career. Coach Fortin has been a positive influence on generations of athletes, learning from every coach he has worked with and for along the way. Coach Fortin has the vision, heart, experience, and talent to lead our outstanding football program. Please welcome Coach Fortin to this new role!
So...what’s going on at Marian?
Many wonderful things. Every day. We are braver than rumors. We are stronger than doubts. We are here for each other. We are forever grateful that you have joined this great family - in all it’s huge, loud, messy, loving, fierce glory.

A NOTE ABOUT 3RD QUARTER EXAMS! PLEASE READ!
Due to the multiple snow days and weather-related late-starts, we have empowered our teachers to determine if they will be ready to administer an exam during the designated Quarter 3 exam times (March 7-8). Many teachers will be administering Quarter 3 exams as scheduled; others, however, will use that week to continue with their instruction, deferring assessment until the unit objectives are met. We do this to uphold the primary objective of assessment: to check for mastery of the content. If instructors believe, due to the weather-related interruptions, that they need more time prior to proper assessment, then we fully support that professional decision. Quarter 3 will end on March 8th. All teachers will share quarter-end plans with their students within the next two weeks.
Principal's Coffee: February 26th at 8:00 am!
We are hoping you would consider attending the third of four Principal's Coffee of the year. This provides you an opportunity to meet other parents, and talk with the Principal directly, all in the hopes of making Marian a stand-out from other high schools; providing the highest academics, spiritual guidance, and social/emotional support possible to our students.
It's Time to Collect SENIOR BABY PHOTOS for the Yearbook!
Dear Marian Senior Family,
It is the time of the year where the yearbook, The Memorare, is collecting baby photos of the Senior class. Photos should be appropriate and tend to be around ages 6 months-2 years. We ask that these photos be clear and scannable.
Senior students will be turning in their baby photos to their English teacher. We will return these photos in the same condition, we just ask that the following information is provided on the back of the photo:
Student’s printed FULL name
English Teacher’s Name & Class Period
*STUDENT’S PARENTS MAY CHOOSE TO EMAIL THE IMAGES AS WELL! THEY NEED TO EMAIL THE JPEG IMAGE TO “kgallagher@marian.com” AND HAS TO IDENTIFY THEIR STUDENT WITH FIRST AND LAST NAME! MUST BE IN JPEG FORMAT!!!
If your student(s) chooses not to submit a photo, he or she will have no smaller photo next to their official portrait. The space will simply be left blank. To guarantee every Senior has a photo, we ask that students bring their photos in NO LATER than Thursday, March 14th, 2018. We will return the photos once they have been successfully scanned into our system.
Should you have any questions, please contact Miss Gallagher (kgallagher@marian.com). We look forward in creating a lifetime of memories for the Class of 2019!
Sincerely, The 2018-2019 Memorare Editors and Staff
